We will get through this together. If you're working on an electrical project, sometimes you may need to check the amperage, or how much electricity is flowing through the circuit.
For instance, measuring the amperage can be useful when you're trying to determine if a component in your vehicle is draining the battery. Fortunately, measuring amps is easy if you have a multimeter and you use safety around electrical components. Warning: Use extreme caution when you're handling electricity. Wear heavy rubber gloves, do not work near water or on a metal surface, and do not grab exposed wires with your bare hands.
It's also a good idea to have someone nearby not touching the circuit who can assist you or call for emergency assistance in case you get an electrical shock. Before you attempt to measure amperage, put on rubber gloves and make sure you're not working on or near a metal surface so you don't electrocute yourself. To get started, configure the multimeter you'll be using by pushing the black probe into the "COM" socket and the red probe into the "A" socket. Then, turn off the power and break the circuit you're testing.
Once the power to the circuit has been turned off, attach the red probe on the multimeter to the negative terminal of the power supply, and touch the black probes to the negative wire and turn on the circuit. Leave the probes attached for 1 minute before checking the amperage reading on the display.

A multimeter is an electronics testing device that, um, tests multiple things, including resistance, voltage, and current. Using certain multimeter models, you can test to be sure that components — such as diodes, capacitors, and transistors — function properly. You can also troubleshoot your circuit to see where current is failing and pinpoint the problem spots. Find a model whose price you like and then splurge on the next higher-priced model.
You will use a multimeter all the time. A multimeter has a set of leads: a black one and a red one. You adjust a knob to set the test you wish to perform such as resistance, voltage, or current as well as the range to test. Note: Some multimeters have an auto-ranging feature that saves you the trouble of setting the range. Test leads that typically come with multimeters use simple cone-shaped tips.
You can buy test clips that slip onto the cone-shaped tips to make it easier to clip them onto the leads of a component. This makes testing much easier, trust us. The problem with resistors is that manufacturers seem to expect you to memorize the color code that identifies the resistance rating. Here is an easier way:. If your multimeter reads 1, you guessed too low of a value.
Move the dial to the next range up until you get a valid reading. If your multimeter reads at close to 0 zeroyou guessed too high of a value. Testing switches or relays is another common use of the resistance-testing feature of your multimeter.
When the switch is open, you should get a value of 1, meaning that the resistance is higher than your meter can measure.
When the switch is closed, you should get a low resistance — close to 0 zero ohms. Consider checking the voltage at the contacts of a battery pack. To do this, touch the red lead to one of the battery pack outputs and the black test lead to the other. With a 4-battery pack loaded with fresh batteries, you should get a reading of about 6 volts.
When batteries get old, the voltage drops. Slip the free end of the wire attached to your black test lead into any contact on the ground bus. Although you might not get a reading of the full 6 volts because of drain on the battery from the circuit, you should get a reading above 3. If you get a reading close to 0 zero volts, check to make sure that your battery pack and the wires from the battery pack terminal block are connected properly. Disc spins at high speed but no audio no video. This LG DVD was brought in by a friend of mine, it was not his so not much history of the problem but the owner has told him that the DVD has never gone to any other technician.
Before opening I powered it up and it came up pretty well, the disc is spinning at high speed but no audio or video coming out. I took some time observing the DVD and I noticed that the track count is also stuck, I opened the set and tried to push the pickup to the outer side. Alas the pickup was very hard to move, it should move softly either way. I checked the sled motor by applying some dc voltage to it and rotated very well minus the load of course.
Never apply power to the CD motor in circuit. You might end up doing more harm to the circuit. With this I concluded that the sled motor was health. Then I applied power to the set with the pick up on the out lane.
To my amazement the pick is supposed to move toward the center but this time it stayed at the same place stuck. I checked the gears and all seemed ok to my judgment. So what next…. After careful checking I realized the gear is not locking up well. Someone might have opened the set before and did not return the gears correctly?
I suspected previous repair because one bolt was also missing which hold the Loader mechanism. Remember the owner claimed that the set was never opened before. So always be careful to check if the unit was ever opened before because this will allow you to think outside the box. Always be careful with unit which had previous repairs by other people. I believe the previous technician repaired the machine but only missed when it came to re-assembling the machine, as a technician please note that there is no school to teach you how to open and close the equipment you will be working on and therefore it is up to the technician to be keen when opening especially new machine because when closing up you will be doing exactly the opposite of what you did when opening.

When a breaker trips, power to that particular outlet, light or appliance will no longer be available. If that occurs, you must reset the breaker.
However, if the breaker has been reset but there is still no power, there is a problem with either the wiring in the circuit or the circuit breaker itself. The first thing to do is to test the breaker. Unplug or switch off all of the electrical appliances that are connected to the wiring that comes from the suspect breaker. Manually test the breaker first. Flip it back and forth, and if it does not stay in the "on" position, the breaker is bad and needs to be replaced.
Remove the cover on the breaker box. It will be held in place with several screws that are turned out with a screwdriver. This will allow you access to the the actual power leads that supply the breakers. Touch the red power lead on the multimeter to the screw that feeds power into the breaker. The screw will be connected to the breaker by a black wire.
Touch the black or neutral probe of the multimeter to the grounded box. Read the voltage on the multimeter. If there is no voltage reading, then the breaker is bad and needs to be replaced.
If there is a voltage reading, and the voltage will read either or volts, then the breaker is good and the wiring leading out from the breaker may be compromised. If that is the case, call in an electrician to source out the problem. Never test breakers if the floor is wet. Always wear rubber soled shoes when testing a home breaker.
